Deciding our first stop in Malaysia was hard but when I saw those green fields, I was sold. Coming from an Iraqi culture mixed with my 2 years in Turkey means Chai (tea) will always be a good way to socialize and thats when we decided to start our trip in Cameron Highlands!

Cameron Highlands is one of the cities in Malaysia that are famous for tea plantation, strawberry fields, and honey farms. The minute you will arrive, you will notice a green scenery all around you. It is so peaceful and beautiful, the people are externally nice and it is for sure worth a visit.

How to get there

Price of the ticket: 35 RM (one way).

Time of the buses: almost every 1 hour.

To reach Cameron Highlands you have to take the bus, there is no other way. Buses will usually take 5 FREAKING hours to reach.

If you experience motion sickness, please remember to take your medicine prior to this trip, it was a roller coaster.

If you are staying in Kuala Lumpur then you need to take the bus from terminal Bersepadu Selatan which is the main bus station in Kuala Lumpur. The minute you arrive you will see lots of offices that sell tickets to various places one of them is Cameron Highlands.

I purchased a one-way ticket to Tanah Rata which is the main bus station in Cameron Highlands. Once you arrive you either go to your hotel to relax a bit or start your tour.

The minute you arrive you will notice the beautiful fields of tea plantation, the beautiful kinda British houses and the really kind people. It was a really small town with lots and lots of great surrounding it.

Most hotels in Cameron offer a tour service that you can book to see the main attractions. Since it is a small town and there aren’t a lot of Uber or grab, I really recommend booking the tour. However, you need to negotiate with the price.

I booked a tour to visit the tea plantation, bee farm, and the strawberry farm. It was a cool ride because we were in the back of a Jeep!! It was crazy!

Tea Plantation fields

Bee farm

In the beginning, we visited the famous Tea plantation which was my favorite part of my whole Cameron trip! It was seriously beautiful and peaceful. In the end of the fields, you will find a tea factory which offers a complimentary tea! I bought some tea to my family and we all approve that it makes a good tea-cup.

Then, we headed to the Bee and the Strawberry farms, I have to say there were nice, they offered us fresh strawberries and natural honey which was great but hmm I felt this wasn’t for me. However, families do enjoy visiting these beautiful places.

Moving to another city

As I mentioned before, you can either have a one-way or two-way ticket to Kuala Lumpur which means you can go back to Kuala Lumpur in the night.

However, we booked an early bus to Penang which was our next destination! and YES there is a bus heading to Penang from Cameron.

I asked a lot about this piece of information and no one had a really good answer so I am here now to tell you yes, there is a bus.

Price: 35 RM (one way).

Duration: almost 5 hours.

Stop: Butterworth (which is before last station that you need to get off to catch the ferry to arrive in Georgetown)

Time: Buses are daily at 8 AM and 2 PM.
